ONE SUN Farm & Flora
My very first market, October 2022
Hi, friends! As we approach our two year anniversary, the time has come for a little introduction. When I got started back in 2022, I was a complete novice to building a business. I went where my knowledge, passions, and community guided me, evolving as I went. At the time, my focus was primarily medicinal herbs and edible plants, but I started dabbling in florals as well. I developed a range of beverage blends, tinctures, skin care oil, dyed garments, nursery plants, AND dried florals, all in the hopes to help support my family. Folks responded positively to what we were offering, and I found myself booked and busy, as the kids say.
In January 2024, I left my part-time job to dedicate myself fully to ONE SUN. Even with the extra time and mental energy, I felt myself being pulled in too-many directions. I was nervous to box myself in, but I knew that what made me happier than anything else was growing and working with flowers. Perhaps they don’t heal what ails you, nor do they fill your belly, but flowers are undeniably a balm for the soul. Plus, they remind me of my mom.
It is my belief that the beauty of flowers and the benefit of what many deem a luxury should be accessible to all. While we love the stunning opulence of wedding florals, there are plenty of floral designers and flower farmers out there who will offer you the boutique bridal experience of your dreams, but that ain’t me, babe, at least not for now. While I am open to offering a la carte dried wedding florals for the right clients, my focus is truly more on the every day. I want to grow and design the flowers you buy yourself when you’ve had a tough week; the arrangements you give your bestie when they get their PhD, or a new job, or hell, when their divorce is finalized. I want to help you design special florals for your boyfriend, husband, partner— I believe now more than ever that men need flowers, too.
So who are we now? ONE SUN Farm & Flora is a small-scale urban flower farm and floral studio offering boutique florals that are lovingly grown, thoughtfully curated, and artfully designed with your every day moments in mind. We prioritize utilizing our own harvests and other locally-grown flowers, supplementing with wholesale florals as needed for our event/wedding clients. Our dried florals are a mix of home-grown and curated wholesale selections. Purists should look elsewhere, as I am just one person doing 95% of the work (shoutout to my husband, Philip who fills in the gaps when I need help). I do consider myself a flower farmer, as I dedicate time and energy every single day to cultivation, whether that is soil improvements, planning, seed starting, weeding, planting, and/or harvesting flowers for fresh arrangements or for drying. I chose to use the term flora because it captures the idea that we are working with the plants of a particular moment in time: and at this time those will largely be florals.
Grateful to be doing what I love at Mezzo Market in St. Pete, FL
Thank you to every single person who has supported me over the last two years. I can’t wait to continue to learn and grow with you all.
