alocasia

alocasia are Native to subtropical Asia and Eastern Australia.

Light: bright, indirect light. Alocasias do NOT tolerate lower light conditions.

Water: Water when top 2”-3” of soil has dried out. Alocasia can be sensitive to salts and chemicals in tap water; for best results, water with distilled water, rain water, or leave tap water out for 24 hours before using.

Humidity: High humidity. Alocasias appreciate frequent misting or sitting on a pebble tray for increased humidity.

Soil: Alocasias prefer a well-aerated mix of potting soil, perlite, and peat.

Nutrients: Feed monthly during spring and summer; stop feeding during dormancy.

Pests/Diseases: Alocasias are very prone to spider mites. Plan to routinely check your plants for infestation. If found, isolate the plant, spray down with soapy water and wipe down with neem oil. Increase the humidity level around the plant, as spider mites thrive in dry conditions.

Toxicity: Alocasias are toxic, so be mindful around children and pets.

Note: Alocasias often experience dormancy in the winter months. Decrease the frequency of watering, and don’t be alarmed if it loses leaves.
