anthurium

There are over 1,000 species of anthurium native to Central America, South America, and the Caribbean.

Light: Bright, indirect light. Too little light will prevent flowering and encourage root rot.

Watering: Water when top 1” of soil dries out. Do not let soil dry out completely.

Humidity: Anthuriums are native tropical plants that require higher levels of humidity to thrive. Use a pebble tray, clump plants together, or use a humidifier to keep this plant happy.

Soil: Anthuriums like a chunky, well aerated soil mix, such as orchid mix with additional perlite and a bit of sand for good drainage.

Feeding: Feed 1-2x a month during the active growing season.

Pests/Disease: Anthurium are susceptible to all of the standard pests. Be sure to check regularly for pests and/or signs of stress.

Toxicity: The high oxalate content makes Anthuriums toxic to pets and humans.

Repot when the pot is full of roots, and the plant is sending up a lot of aerial roots.
