pilea
There are over 600 species of Pilea native to subtropical and tropical regions around the world. Pilea is the largest genus of the Urticaceae (nettle) family.
Light: Medium to bright, indirect light. Pilea will scorch in direct sunlight.
Water: Pilea like to dry out between waterings.
Humidity: Normal room humidity is fine, but pileas may benefit from added humidity if you live in a drier climate.
Soil: Pilea like very well-draining soil as they are prone to root rot.
nutrients: Feed pilea monthly with half-diluted liquid houseplant fertilizer during the growing season. Do not feed while the soil is dried out. Water first, then feed the next day. Do not feed during the winter.
Pests/Diseases: Pilea are susceptible to most of the common houseplant pests: spider mites, mealybugs, aphids, thrips. Since they are sensitive to overwatering, diseases like root rot, leaf spot, botrytis, and powdery mildew can also cause issues.
Toxicity: Pilea are poisonous to humans and animals.
